Often I am asked what "snacks" we give our kids. We try hard to stay away from processed anything, but it's not easy- in our day and age, it's nearly impossible. I don't know about you, but even with our family's diet primarily containing whole foods and Mommy being the one who prepares most of the food from scratch, it sure is nice to find some convenience food out there to throw at your kids on a hectic day or until you can finish preparing a meal- so that you're not hearing, " MOM, WE'RE HUNGRY!" a thousand times. My family enjoys "CHIPS". No matter how many times we try to get around taking them OUT of our diet, there they are again! When we changed our diet, we used Lay's Chips as the original brand contains no preservatives or additives. We quickly realized that the corn oil they are cooked in is most likely genetically modified, seeing that 90% of corn in the US is genetically modified. There are potatoes that are genetically modified on the market, and we didn't want to take the chance any longer in buying these chips.
Well, for the past couple years, we've been buying a brand of chips called "Food Should Taste Good". They are gluten free, certified vegan, kosher, cholesterol free, low sodium, NON GMO, all natural, contain NO artificial colors, flavors or preservatives, and NO MSG or trans fats. I certainly wouldn't rely on them nutritionally as they are processed, but it's a relief now a day to find anything processed that's both affordable and doesn't contain ingredients that will lead to a sure death down the long term road. In our area, we can find them at our local Wegman's store and BJ's wholesale Club. Outside the area, you can shop online at www.vitacost.com (and other nutritional sites) and buy them in bulk. We love the Sweet Potato and cheddar cheese flavors the best, but they have a variety out there.
Other quick, favorite snacks that we enjoy......Organic plain yogurt (sometimes topped with a little organic granola), ants on a log (peanut butter and raisins on top of celery), Snap peas, Homemade kefir, carrots, occasionally organic granola bars, organic popcorn (popped with organic coconut oil), a glass of raw milk, homemade, all natural bread (minus refined sugars and white flour), fresh fruit of any kind, frozen fruit in the summer months (makes a good alternative to Popsicles), etc...
ENJOY!

Thanks, Jessica. Maybe I will look into this brand. I've been trying to eat gluten-free because of my thyroid. I'm hoping to make coconut flour honey muffins for Audrey's birthday if I have time, because I don't want her to have a bunch of junk (especially around her surgery). I've made them before and love them!
